Otis the Owl

We had a very exciting day in Kindergarten today! We had an amazing visit from the Medicine River Wildlife Center and Otis the Great Horned Owl. We also read "Otis's Story," and learned so much about owls, wild animals, and ways to keep our environment clean and the animals who live there healthy.

We also visited the Book Fair today to check out all of the great books and supplies for sale. Please feel free to stop by the book fair with your child when you are here for Student Led Conferences tomorrow and on Friday.

Just a reminder that there is no school for Kindergarten tomorrow, March 21st, and Friday, March 22nd, due to Student Led Conferences. Your students are looking forward to showing you everything that we have been working on! As well, there is no school during Spring Break (March 25th to March 31st). School resumes on Monday, April 1st for all students.

After Spring Break, we will be beginning an inquiry into animals. As a part of this study, we will be creating our animals out of plasticine. We will need plastic yogurt or sour cream lids for this project, so if you have any extras around your house, we would welcome them in our classroom!

Math Problem

We did a math problem today- If there are 4 birds, how many wings are there all together? Ask your child to show you one way they can show you the answer. We had centers and snack and gym. We finished up our eggs as well by adding different details to them.

- Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Watterson will be available for student led conferences from 11:00am-7:00pm on Thursday, March 21. Ms. Khan will be available from 8:00am-7:00pm on Thursday, March 21 and 8:00am-11:00am on Friday, March 22. The blue and yellow groups will book their conference with Ms. Khan, the red group with Mrs. Conley, and the green group with Mrs. Watterson.

- Thank you to those who are bringing back colored folders on a regular basis and exchanging home reading books. We are still working with students to get them in the habit of putting the folders in the bins at the beginning of school. Please help us by reminding students at home to take their folders out so they can get a new home reading book. We are not sending home reading books without folders and students must return their book in order to get a new one.

As Long As The Sun Shines

We worked on a sequencing activity about our field trips to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. We talked about our favorite moment there and what we did first, then, and last. We also painted our paper mâché eggs and we cannot wait to share them with you during the upcoming student led conferences. We also had a presentation "As Long As the Sun Shines" by Quest Theatre where we sang songs and enjoyed a beautiful presentation with great visuals. We also danced together as a group.

Please note that there is no school for Kindergarten on Thursday, March 21st and Friday March 22nd as it will be student led conferences. The book fair will also take place then so please visit it in the learning commons before after your scheduled time.

Living and Non-Living

We had math centers where we tried out many different math activities. We used dominoes today and many other resources while having a great time. We continued our discussion on living and non living things and created a check list where we examined different things around the school and asked questions like "does it breathe?," "does it eat or drink?", etc. We then found our own things to draw and identify if they are non-living or living.

Reminders:
The afternoon group will be visiting the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary tomorrow Friday, March 15th. There will be no school for the AM group. PM parents- please check your emails for an email regarding our field trip tomorrow. Thanks!
