Glazed 8 Donut Race

OUR THIRD ANNUAL GLAZED 8 DONUT RACE WILL TAKE PLACE JUNE 2, 2019!

The Glazed 8 is a race of varying lengths for kids, adults, families, and friends that combine two of the best activities around: running & eating donuts. And, the bonus of the event is that all money raised goes towards our community - specifically, Eric Harvie Elementary School and new this year, Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation. We are in the third year of the event, have donated close to $4000 and eaten nearly 500 donuts and 2500 Timbits!

Pastels and Watercolors

We had a fun gym session of freeze dancing today. We listened to our favorite songs including, the PEACE song, Baby Shark, and others to practice different dancing moves safely around the gym. We also worked with oil pastels for the first time and after talking about our experience during swimming, we used the pastels to draw ourselves swimming on water color paper. At centers, we did a wash of blue watercolor paint to color the water. They turned out beautiful and we cannot wait to share them with our families soon. We also had centers where some of us used the painting centre, ice cream centre, and had snack.

Grizzly Bears

Mr. Kelly visited us first thing and we colored our brown paper to accurately make it look like bear fur. We used different colors of crayons including brown, black, orange, yellow, etc. We then cut out squares and ovals and other shapes to transform our paper into Grizzly Bears. Students did a great job with cutting. We encourage having your child practice cutting different shapes, letters, and items from flyers at home. We also had a presentation by "Variety" called Just Like You where we learned about the importance of being different and the importance of kind. AM students made a friendship fruit salad with each other and played a fun team musical eggs game as well. We learned about why we must all work together and appreciate each other. PM students worked on their personal journals as well to talk describe their swimming experience.

Visit from an Author

On Friday, students started their mornings off in the gym with Mr. Der and Mr. Kelly. They then headed to the learning commons to meet with Canadian author Sheree Fitch. It was exciting to hear some of her poetry and hear about her life experiences as well. Students then used different materials around the classroom to build a house for their stuffed toys. They were challenged to create a two floor house and have the stuffed toy live on the top floor. The creativity was endless! We ended our morning with math centres.

- AM students will be making a fruit salad tomorrow- please send one pre cut and washed fruit in a container.
