Favourite Book Character Day

Today was an exciting day in Kindergarten! We had our 'Dress-Up as Your Favourite Book Character Day' for Readathon, and students were able to have their pictures taken in their costumes. It was great to see the students celebrating their love of reading through various characters from their favourite books.

In the morning we had art with Mr.Kelly where we finished our bird drawings from P.D. Eastman's "Are You My Mother?" as well as gym.

We had literacy centers where we worked on identifying the letters, making the sounds for the letters L and K, guided reading, literacy games, and a Read the Room activity.

We also continued our inquiry into birds and investigated what kinds of things birds might like to eat. We talked about how different birds eat different things, and why this might be. For example, we talked about how birds of prey, or birds with sharp beaks and talons might eat meat, while birds with small beaks might eat seeds or bugs. We then used pipe cleaners and plain, bird-friendly cheerios to build our own bird feeders. Feel free to find a good spot outside with your child to hang their bird feeder!

We will be visiting the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary TOMORROW with the AM Group. Below are a few reminders to make sure that our field trip tomorrow is great:

1. Please meet outside the front doors of the school at 8:25am.  Our bus is scheduled to depart the school at 8:30am and we want to get going as soon as possible.  Please note:  pick up will be at the front of the school at 12:05pm.  Please inform your childcare providers of this change in drop off and pick up. Please be aware that there is no parking in the bus zone at the front of the school.
2. Please pack a water bottle and snack for your child.  Exploring the bird sanctuary is hungry work!  Please send snacks that can easily be eaten outside in one hand.  Children will be bringing home all garbage with them.
3. We will be OUTSIDE all morning!  Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather.  This includes snow pants, winter jacket, winter boots, gloves/mitts, hats.  Please dress your child in layers.  
4. Please send an extra pair of mitts/gloves with your child.  Often we end up with the first pair wet and need to make a switch for dry gloves/mitts.
5. Please leave your colored folder at home.  There will not be time to exchange home reading books tomorrow.

The PM Group will be visiting the Bird Sanctuary NEXT Friday, March 15th. There is no school tomorrow for the PM Group. 

Due to a scheduling conflict at Shouldice Pool, we are postponing swimming for ALL Kindergarten students until April.

A new sign up genius will be created and sent out closer to the April dates. A new acknowledge of risk field trip form will also be sent home in April. 

We are still looking for newspaper or matte (non-shiny) advertisements that we could use for our upcoming art project on bird eggs. If you have any that you would be willing to bring in, we would greatly appreciate it!
