DEAR Day

Today was our Drop Everything And Read day. An announcement was made twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon to tell students to stop what they are doing and spend a few minutes to read any book of their choice. Students had a relaxing time looking at books along with the rest of the school. We read the book "Hatch, Little Egg" by Edouard Manceau and then created our own bird nests using brown paper bags and paint. 
We continued exploring our new centres again today, while roasting some fake marshmallows by the fire and having a great time with our friends in the tent.
We had literacy centers as well where we rotated through different activities. 

• Wednesday - Student Read-Aloud Day with Grade 3/4 Buddies 
• Thursday - Dress-Up as Your Favorite Book Character Day 
• Friday - Oral story telling

- Due to a scheduling conflict at Shouldice Pool, we are postponing swimming for ALL Kindergarten students until April.

A new sign up genius will be created and sent out closer to the April dates. A new acknowledge of risk field trip form will also be sent home in April. 

Thank you to those parents who had originally signed up to volunteer. We hope you can join us again in April.

On that note, we are still looking for volunteers for our field trip to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. Please reply to this email if you are able to volunteer this Friday, March 8 (AM kindergarten) OR Friday, March 15 (PM Kindergarten).

We apologize for the inconvenience. 

- As a part of our Kindergarten Science curriculum, we have been investigating birds! We are looking for students to begin bringing in any newspaper or matte (non-shiny) advertisements for a paper maîché egg project.

- Readathon information pamphlets went home yesterday. Please go through this form with your child so that they understand that Readathon can take place at school AND at home. Please encourage your child to read every day! 

- If you would like your child to participate in Thursday's Dress-Up as Your Favourite Book Character Day, please return their form and payment no later than Wednesday, March 6. The cost for pictures is $6.00, and all money raised will go towards new books for Eric Harvie School.
